Double-sided printing

Double-sided printing allows the user to print on both sides of a piece of printer paper versus one side only. This method allows for saving space as well as cost of purchasing extra printer paper. In order to print on both sides of the paper, the user must be using a computer printer that supports double-side printing. Most commercial printers will have this option.

To print on both sides of the paper, a few settings need to be configured. The process for a PC and a MAC vary slightly. For a PC, click on the “File” link at the top left hand corner of the screen or right-click on the screen. Select the “Print” option. Once in the print screen, the settings can be changed for double-sided printing. Click on either “Preferences” or “Properties” to access the double-sided printing option. Select “Double Sided Printing” from the printer settings screen and click on the “OK” button to apply the changes. To print, click on the “Print” button and then select either “odd pages only” or “even pages only” from the print window.

Once the page has printed out, a tip to consider is to mark the top of the page with a pencil so that you are not confused about the direction of the page. Once the page is turned to the opposite side and placed back into the printer in the right direction, click on either “odd pages only” or “even pages only” and click the “Print” button to resume the printing process.

To use double-sided printing on a MAC, click on “File,” “Copies and Pages,” “Layout” and “Long-Edged Binding.” Once the layout has been selected, return to the “Copies and Pages” screen and select the “Paper Handling” link. From here, “Odd Numbered Pages” or “Even Numbered Pages” can be selected. The printing process can be started by clicking on the “Print” button.
